My dog loves to eat grass all the time. Is she lacking something in her diet?

Hi Lorraine,
This is a common question that pet parents ask. Dogs very often eat grass actually.
We don't know the exact answer but experts have put forward several suggestions such as;
- Grazing when feeling nauseous in order to make themselves vomit
- Grazing to improve digestion and stomach problems
- Grazing as a form of treatment for intestinal worms
- Grass and soil may act as dietary supplements (possibly Fiber?)
As long as eating grass is only an occasional occurrence it shouldn't be a problem. In fact most veterinarians consider it a normal behavior.
If it is more common then it is worth having your dog checked especially if vomiting, diarrhea or wind is common (may be a sign of a chronic digestive system upset)
Please keep in mind that herbicides and pesticides used on lawns are toxic. So too are a number of house and garden plants. Please be careful what your dog is eating. | 07.31.15 @ 08:43
